A poignant story of love between three friends as they walk through life, while also telling the story of Gretchen and Chase. The author has an amazing gift. There was a situation I normally wouldn't like to read about because ordinarily I find things like that a little sleazy, yet the author managed to make it agonizingly beautiful. So much pain yet at the same time there's a sense of awe because the intensity of the pain just shows you the precious treasure which lies beneath... I nearly cried. The way Chase and Gretchen's love survived over the years, the strength in Chase, especially -- the determination to do what's right even though it hurts, yet still unashamedly loving Gretchen... it turned me inside out. I so respect the author for resisting the temptation to fall into clichéd plotlines. Watching the three GALs support and be there for one another through thick and thin rounded out the story nicely for me and made it into so much more than a romance. I would whole-heartedly recommend this book to others. It's a keeper.Product details

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Binge read the chapters til I finished...8 hrs later. The character development, range of elicited emotions, believable dialog and continuity of the writing had me fully engaged to sadly, the last word. From believing that the GALs are real people...somewhere... to "lust at first sight" growing into a decades long delay of satisfaction and later lifelong fulfillment...and, using music to carry the relationship thru the years...very effective....a truly great well told story! I feel with her development of this type of relationship/romance story, JJ Kendrick should be considered relevant along with more established women authors of this genre. I will search out and look forward to reading more of her work!
Hmm, this is very clever. Actually not my genre, but it drew me in right away and before I knew it the first chapter had disappeared. Either it is written from strong real memories or it comes from a superb imagination, because it is utterly believable. It was as if I had grown up with the 'Gals' in question. And a literary method I haven't seen before...the conversations between the three girls, where it isn't spelt out for the reader, who is actually speaking, but strong characterisation means that soon you recognise them anyway,
Finally, a very odd observation, my apologies, but JJ Kendrick has a great way of......ENDING chapters. WE all know the importance of the 'first line', but she has both. Never said that before. Highly recommended reading.
What a fun and entertaining book. Anyone who has had lifelong friends will understand the unbreakable bond between the GALs. And those who have not had such strong relationships will only wish they did. The characters are believable and the storyline has just enough fantasy and tragic heartbreak to keep you glued to the book from start to finish. Well written!! I'm surprised I can't find this book in print somewhere to add to my library. Publishers should be fighting over this author between this book and her first book, Music of Souls. The two books show the diverse talent of J.J. Kendrick who can weave a compelling tale whether the story involves regular people in Vegas or vampires in New England. I am looking forward to seeing more by J.J. Kendrick.
Is there eternal love?
Do men like Chase exist?
Do women like Gretchen exist?
Is there eternal friendship?
JJ Kendrick says ‘Yes’ to all counts….
Is it possible to prolong, nourish and postpone love? In this case it is…Perhaps, it’s better to let the fire grow in middle age, when most couples have reverted to numbness.
1981-2009 Gretchen and Chase have made it through rough times, for almost 3 decades….
Whatever it is, however the characters might sound atypical, maybe old-fashioned in their attitudes and behaviour, they are easily related to and very much alive, and the plot is gripping until the very last word.
Last but not the least, the GALs, their lifelong support for each other, through good times and the bad times and always…..
Thank you for a wonderful story, I shall miss all your characters and reminisce in fondness……
Well done JJ Kendrick, for a Good Story Well Told, with down to life characters, natural dialogue, and a heart-rending story that frustrated me at times, with impatience....
I would highly recommend this book. A story of a sentimental journey of friends and true love. The characters are unforgettable.
Love how the story captures the true meaning of friendship among women and the bond we keep for a life time.
